CAMH will award two student fellowships in mental health for the current year (June-August, 2007). This fellowship provides students with a unique opportunity to build their skills in academic research and to develop a holistic perspective in mental health. We invite students from the Psychology and Sociology streams to apply.

The fellowships involve research and review of literature in specific areas related to mental health. Fellows are expected to submit a small compilation, review essay or report on the chosen topic, at the end of the fellowship period. We will award two fellowships totally amounting to Rs. 6000 (and an additional Rs.1000 towards travel) for the duration of 3 months from June to August.

Students may choose to work on any one of the following themes:

  • Gender and Mental Health
  • Social Determinants of Mental Health
  • Mental Institutions and Human Rights
  • An Alternative Approach to Mental Health:
  • Arts-based Therapy and Talk Therapy
  • Positive Mental Health

Eligibility:

  • M.A. Psychology, Sociology students (who have appeared for the 1st or 2nd year examination).
  • Interested in research
  • Good writing skills in English.

About Us

CAMH is a research centre of Bapu Trust. We are involved in research, advocacy and service provision in Pune and Thane, in the area of mental health since 1999. Our work is informed by a user-centered, rights-based approach and covers a range of mental health issues including the rights of the mentally ill, gender linkages in mental health and alternative approaches towards mental health. We have initiated psychosocial interventions within the community and institutional settings in Pune and Mumbai [Seher]. We also have a resource centre on mental health, which boasts of a unique collection of more than 3000 books, over 600 reports, and a growing set of audiovisual resources.

 

Terms and conditions for the fellowship programme

Period for fellowship: June to August (3months). Extension of one month will be given only for the purpose of completion of the report.

Format for submission of work: The final outcome of the fellowship will be in the form of a small compilation / report / review essay (approx 20-25 pages). Report should be submitted in English. Fellows are expected to work independently with appropriate guidance from our research team.

Review Process: A total of 3 review meetings will be held with the fellows for the purpose of review of work and discussing difficulties and barriers to work, if any. An orientation session will be held for the fellows to acquaint them with the work and perspective of Bapu Trust.

Ownership of the work: The final outcome of the fellowship will be jointly owned, between the fellow and Bapu Trust. The review essay or report will be housed in Bapu Trust library. Authorship of the essay / report will rest with the fellow. Fellows may publish their work if they wish, after giving due acknowledgement to Bapu Trust.

Mode of payment: The total amount of the fellowship is Rs. 6000/-. An additional amount of Rs. 1000/- will be given towards local conveyance. The fellowship amount will be disbursed over the course of the fellowship period. The fellowship amount will be disbursed in three equal installments, at the end of each month, the last installment being paid after the report is submitted.

Library membership: Fellows will be able to avail of library membership for 3 months (2 books), free of charge.

Attendance: Fellows are expected to spend at least 18 hours per week in Bapu Trust’s library in order to work on their designated topics.

In case the fellow is unable to continue with the fellowship due to any circumstances, we reserve the right of partial refund from the amount disbursed.
