CAMH brings
out various kinds of resources (posters, booklets, publications)
in mental health. We are aiming that these resources will be
people centered and woman-sensitive in perspective. The publications
are especially meant for community and NGO use, giving a framework
for understanding as well as encouraging affirmative action
in community mental health. Many of them can be used in community
training programs, as they are rich in case studies, study
themes and reflective questions for debate and discussion.
Our
publications reflect a social and human rights perspective
in mental health. Our sources for the community publications
are the following:
Our workshop
proceedings and research reports
Our library,
research papers and documentation files (consisting of newspaper
clippings, interviews and journal articles)
In-house
capacity building programs and activities we regularly organize
with various resource persons on specific topics
Our structured
and situational research, group discussions and interactions
with women, NGOs, field visits and field work
We
have the view that our publications must reflect, as much as
possible, community perceptions and practices in mental health.
To achieve this aim, we do self-consciously address methodology
issues, in the process of building up a publication. Doing
participatory workshops and group discussions, collecting narratives,
case studies and ethnographies, doing interviews, using creative
/ critical literature in the mental health context, organising
resource person interactions, field visits and desk work have
been used as methodologies for our publications. All our publications
are peer-reviewed by external resource persons. Dissemination
or field-testing workshops are also conducted before finalizing
the materials.
We
strive to keep our booklets informative, reflective, experience-rich
and also playful. We avoid stigma reinforcing illustrations
and drawings.
